Myths which are believed in tend to become true. – George Orwell
Drink eight glasses of water a day!
In 1945, the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board told people to consume eight glasses of fluid daily. Before long, most of us believed we needed eight glasses of water, in addition to what we eat and drink, every day.
Water’s great, but you can also whet your whistle with juice, tea, milk, fruits, and vegetables—quite enough to keep you hydrated. Even coffee quenches thirst, despite its reputation as a diuretic; the caffeine makes you lose some liquid, but you’re still getting plenty.
If you do a search you will find people claim distilled water is bad for and still others claim it is perfect. I lived aboard US submarines for years and all the drinking water was distilled. It tastes the best … it has no taste. Personally I’d drink it over most any other bottled water.
Another theory says drinking water at certain time maximizes it’s effectiveness on the body:
2 glasses of water after waking up – helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal – helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed – avoids stroke or heart attack
If there is any research to support or disapprove these statements I cannot find any. If you need a reason to drink at least five glasses of water this looks like a good start.
There are theories about water needs to be a particular ph to be healthy. I cannot find any research that demonstrates one belief over another with any validity or certainty. The last 8 months I have been drinking 10-12 eight ounce glasses of ‘energized’ water. I like the taste… no taste actually and I feel better drinking it. I used to drink a lot less. The water is energized with an AMGizer. [Scroll down until you locate it.] It is a revolutionary cup/bottle holder made out of neoprene with an Amized™ Fusion Technology Titanium disc inside. In 60 seconds, up to 1 liter of liquid becomes energized to keep you going. It has removed any inclination for soda. It enhances tea and coffee too.
I drink a lot of water. I live where the city water is plentiful, tastes great right out of the tap and after using the AMGizer it’s the best I can remember drinking. Check it out for yourself.
